What is a music ministry? Why do we have music in our liturgies and a professional musician director and many dedicated volunteers producing it? The simple answer is that music, in itself, for any purpose, is an expressive experience. We humans have this undeniable need to express ourselves! Spoken words can only take us so far.
Our liturgy documents say, “We do not come to meet Christ as if he were absent from the rest of our lives. We come together to deepen our awareness of, and commitment to, the action of his Spirit in the whole of our lives at every moment….” (Music in Catholic Worship, #2)
In fact, our wise documents go on to say, “The quality of joy and enthusiasm which music adds to community worship cannot be gained in any other way….”
So Music Ministry is a place to bring your longing to express and create, to enhance liturgy beyond the spoken word, to unleash the transformative power of Church for the sake of all who participate and the world.
